Program Fees and Fundraising for the DLS Summer Program

Funding for the Delta Life Skills Summer Program is provided through a combination of grants, which cover less than 50% of our costs, donations, fees and fundraising from participant families. Families pay less than half the actual cost of running the program, which is roughly $7,000 per participant.

The program runs for six consecutive weeks starting in July. Participants may be absent for family vacations and other events, but families pay the camp fee for the entire six weeks, as staff is hired for the duration of the program.

How much does the Summer Program cost?

The program fee is approximately $1,500 for the six-week program (for an exact cost, please refer to this year’s application forms once the application period has begun).

In addition, each family is required to fundraise or donate approximately $800 (for an exact cost, please refer to this year’s application forms). The fundraising must be completed during the period between February Annual General Meetings – from February to February. You will receive two updates per year to advise you of your fundraising totals. If you prefer not to fundraise, you may donate the amount to Delta Life Skills and we will issue you a tax receipt.

If your family has a second child in the program, the fee for that child is only $1,500 – you are not required to fundraise or donate an additional amount.

Ways to fundraise

Delta Life Skills organizes two main fundraisers each year that cover about 20% of our costs: a raffle and a pub night. We strongly encourage everyone to participate in these events as the funds they raise help us to keep our program fees affordable. Families can participate (and satisfy some of their fundraising requirements) by donating auction prizes, selling tickets, and volunteering to help at the events.

Families also fundraise in other ways – in the past they have sold gift cards, Rotary calendars, and chocolates. They’ve held barbecues and bake sales at businesses and churches, held garage sales and bottle drives, wrapped gifts and staged “paint nights”.
