Our Board

The Delta Life Skills Summer Program is run by a dedicated and hardworking volunteer Board.

Alison Howard, President

Alison has served on the Board since 2013 and started her tenure as President in 2016. Alison has two children, one of whom has special needs and has been participating in the Summer Program since 2014.

Alison first started volunteering with this program as a teenager, and also worked as a Recreation Worker for two summers. At that time, she never dreamed she would need to access the program for her future children, and she is very thankful to the foresight of the founders for creating such a wonderful summer camp experience for children with special needs, as well as the dedication and perseverance of all the volunteers who keep the program running.

Alison is a designated accountant and is using her experience and skills to enhance and streamline the program in her term as President.

Carey Dingsdale, Program Director

Carey has been working in the childcare industry for more than a decade, primarily within Delta. Currently, she is working with the City of Delta teaching in Ladner’s playtime program, teaching other various registered programs, and assisting with special events. As an Early Childhood Educator and a mother, Carey understands the need for all children to have a space and environment that is safe and fun, all the while, developing skills at their own accord and abilities.

Community is important to Carey. When she is not working, you will most likely find her at one of the local baseball fields cheering on her three children. Carey is a standing executive member of the North Delta Baseball Association, helping to create a fun and safe place for children of all ages to learn and develop in a game they love. Her primary role encompasses the day-to-day operation of the concessions, managing the finances and the volunteers, and maintaining the stock of each building.

Carey is excited to apply her knowledge, dedication to community, and passion for child development to her role as Program Director with Delta Life Skills Society.

Jason Mui, Treasurer

Jason joined the Board in 2016 as Treasurer, looking to put his accounting skills to use as a volunteer. Jason received his CPA, CGA designation in 2015 and quickly decided he wanted to give back to the community.

Erin McElroy, Vice President

Erin has been on the Board since 2010, after her son enjoyed his first few summers with the Summer Program. Erin has been instrumental in ensuring that the staff we entrust with our children during the summer are well cared for, by providing catering for the kickoff to Summer Fun, as well as ensuring that the year-end barbecue for staff and participants runs smoothly.

Wendy Fraser, Secretary

Wendy joined the Board in 2019 for her son’s final two years of Summer Fun. She wanted to do her small part to help out with this amazing society as it fulfills such a need for parents of children with disabilities. Her son will sorely miss the Summer Program when he’s too old, as he’s had a great summer every year for the past 5 years. Wendy will miss having him count down the months, and then days, until Summer Fun starts every year!

Wendy Ritchie, Human Resources Coordinator

Wendy joined the Board in 2019. She has three children, one of whom attends the Summer Fun program. She is happy to support such a wonderful program and the community of Ladner. Wendy has enjoyed a career in special education for the past 27 years and continues to work in the field.
